Turkey (under the guise of the Ottoman Empire) once dominated the Middle East. After WW1, it retreated. Now, it is showing renewed interest in Middle East affairs. Kuwait and Turkey have announced new ties. Turkey is speaking out about the lack of world leadership in Syria (its neighbor). CNN speaks of a Turkish-Kurdish-Muslim Brotherhood axis, vs. an Iranian-Shia axis, and a Saudi Arabia/Gulf monarchies axis. This as the US finds itself increasingly estranged from onetime allies Egypt and Saudi Arabia. China is providing missiles to Turkey. Russia is playing the role of senior statesman. Major shifts are taking place, that will affect the future of the region.
