Mr. Chaput Goes to Philly

Catholic Archbishop Charles Chaput of Denver has been named the new Archbishop of Philadelphia. GetReligion comments on the press coverage of Mr. Chaput.

I first met Chaput (prounounced “SHAPyoo,” rhymes with “SLAP you”) about 1994, when he was bishop of Rapid City, SD. I was interviewing for the position of Director of Campus Ministry for St. Joseph’s Indian School in Chamberlain; Chaput, a member of the Potawatomi tribe, was the celebrant at mass one day when I was there. When he went to Denver, he became the first Native American archbishop.

(No, I didn’t get that job.)
