Atheist Military Chaplains?

New York Times says atheists are pushing to have military chaplains.

Problem is not only would they have to have an endorsing agent, they’d also have to have an MDiv. Not that there aren’t atheists with MDivs … not that there aren’t some seminaries that produce a lot of atheists …

And I wonder what they’d wear for branch insignia … a question mark, like Dr. Who?

There is a Unitarian-Universalist chaplain on active duty, who describes himself as a “spiritual humanist.” And here’s an article about a UU chaplain in the National Guard. But I guess that’s the problem atheists would have with them–they still have some sense of “spirituality.”
