President of Boston College puts crucifixes back on the walls of classrooms. Cardinal Newman Society is happy, but notes some faculty are scandalized (citing BC Observer). The Observer notes that the (re)introduction of Catholic art has been going on for some time, and some of the art has been provided by students, bringing it from various parts of the world they’ve visited on mission trips. One professor is quoted as saying, “I do not feel comfortable sharing with you what the faculty plan to do, but I can tell you that we are not going just to sit back and watch this.” One might wonder why such a person is teaching at a Catholic university in the first place; but then, many of the faculty were hired in an era when the college was Catholic in name only. Some of it evidently still is.
