“The Love of Many Shall Wax Cold”

Video of a hit-and-run accident in which an elderly pedestrian was struck by racing cars in Hartford. Many cars and trucks slow down to look, many people walk by, do nothing.

The police chief was stunned.

“At the end of the day we’ve got to look at ourselves and understand that our moral values have now changed.” Police Chief Daryl Roberts said, who released the video in hopes of making an arrest. “We have no regard for each other.”

  1. Chief Roberts apparently has never taken a freshman psychology class.

This event closely parallels a case back in the Sixties where a girl named Kitty Genovese was murdered in front of her apartment, while dozens of people looked on and did nothing.

Our moral values have not changed. People’s reaction to such a situation, known as the Bystander Effect, has been documented for over forty years.
