“The Face of Christ”

Found on GodTube.com, video of Gilbert Neil Amelio sculpting “The Face of Christ” on CBN. Amelio was in the Air Force when he started doing this, if I recall correctly. It’s been a few years since I saw him do this in person … it was 1975, in fact. I was in 8th grade, and he came to the Rockford Seventh-day Adventist Church. During the day, he spoke to us in the school, then he did the program in the evening. I was fascinated, and I did some charcoal drawings of his representation of Jesus that I sold to raise money for my 8th grade class trip. One was purchased for $25 by Nellie Vandeman, who was originally from Rockford (her husband, George, was speaker for the “It Is Written” television program).

I was wondering whatever happened to him, and so I Googled him tonight and I learned he was killed in 2006–struck by a car while walking. Obituary.

  1. I remember that so well – I thought he was just fascinating and it is nice to be able to see his presentation again.
