Philadelphia is “the cradle of liberty”–but Philadelphia freedom no longer extends to the Boy Scouts. Pro-homosexual sentiment is more important to the city today than the freedom of the Boy Scouts to define who they are and what their mission is. New York Times reports on the efforts of the city of Philadelphia to evict the Boy Scouts from their headquarters building.
The problems is that the city is breaching a contract signed with the Boy Scouts in the 1920s, when the Scouts built the building and turned it over to the city, but retaining use of the building in perpetuity. See this article, and this.
See this response on the Boy Scouts’ webpage.
I hope the Scouts take this to the courts–and argue that if the city is choosing to violate the terms of the agreement, then their gift of the building to the city is thereby revoked.
