Etiquette for the Queen?

New York Times is all atwitter (their word) about how the White House is seeking to accommodate Queen Elizabeth’s whims and wishes. Seems a little silly to me. If the President goes to Buckingham Palace, he follows British etiquette norms. If she comes here–seems to me she should slip into some jeans and eat some barbecue, followed by Bluebell ice cream.

  1. Amen. Now, it’s good and gracious for our President to be an accomodating host, of course, but yeah—the guest shouldn’t take advantage of that.

I used to work at Goddard Space Flight Center, and colleagues say that’s one of Queen Elizabeth’s stops. Interesting to see what that will be like.

A follow-up amen to the barbecue and Bluebell! Maybe Red, White, and Blues? Or just a backyard get-together? The Queen needs to experience authentic Southern hospitality, not just contrived, formal receptions.

I was not aware that the standards of U.S. etiquette for visiting heads of state were so low.
