  1. A couple things are interesting in reviewing this brouhaha. One is how wrong the critics were in the original piling on of criticism. Then how the Pope came out on top, as it were, acknowledged as having made some important points, and having had an apparently productive dialog with a number of Muslim thinkers.

    The other is that, whatever else he may have done, he identified the “elephant in the room” which every other prominent world leader does not dare to identify–the sham idea of President Bush’s hopefully calling it the “religion of peace.”
