Sharp Dressed Men in Cheap Sunglasses

They took the stage after a night of bullriding, wearing matching black sequined jackets, sunglasses, and long beards (except for the one whose name is Beard), and they rocked the house at Reliant Stadium tonight for the final performance of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. I’m speaking, of course, of that little local band, ZZ Top. One of my college room mates was a big ZZ Top fan, but I didn’t get into their music until 20 years later. They began with a rendition of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire” (with appropriate pyrotechnics), included a “Waltz across Texas,” as well as their take on an old Elvis tune (“Viva Las Vegas”), but the rest was typical ZZ Top.
