I was reading an article in my home town newspaper the “Limerick Leader”, the local Palestinian population calling for a boycott of Israeli products, they did it without any sense of irony. The most serious example of anti-Semitism in Ireland was a boycott in Limerick about hundred years ago, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Limerick#Pogrom. When are we going to learn?
So boycotting products from Israel is anti-Semitism, but the United States’ embargo against Cuba is all right? I’m not saying this is what you are proposing, Liam, but many people don’t get upset when it happens elsewhere. But when it comes to Israel, well, it is just bigotry.
As Liam notes, there is a long history of boycotting Jews, long before there was an Israel. And the folks who are urging a boycott of Israel are often the same folks who urged the boycotting of Jews. And the people who are against Israel today still imbibe the same propaganda used before, like the “Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion” (which has been dramatized a number of times in recent years on Arab national TV networks). If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck …
