Republicans Endorse Torture

Republicans in the House voted to uphold Bush’s veto of a bill that would have prohibited the CIA from torturing prisoners. Meanwhile, the US has refused to allow a UN torture inspector to visit American-run jails in Iraq.

Ed Koch says the Democratic party must now make this a campaign issue. Nancy Pelosi has outlined an argument that would be a firm basis for this.

The Toronto Star denounces Bush’s shameful legacy of torture.

Roll Call:

Three Democrats sided with torture: Waters (CA), Marshall (GA), Kucinich (OH).

Five Republicans went on record opposing torture: Johnson (IL), Bartlett (MD), Gilchrest (MD), Smith (NJ), and Ron Paul (TX).

In the Senate, John McCain had initially seemed to support a ban, but when it came to a vote, he sided with the President (the Senate did not vote on the override, since it didn’t pass the House).

So. One party is in favor of killing babies. The other party is in favor of torture.

What a choice.

  • Actually, think you are a bit off in your closing arguement…sounds like John McCain and the Republicans only consider a few cells sacred, but every one else is eligible for waterboarding.

  • It does seem like it.

On the other hand, Obama and the Democrats want to save everyone from torture except for those still in the womb.

If a baby is in the womb, they will let it be tortured.

They’ll let it be ripped limb from limb, or poisoned with saline.

Or else, at an age when it could be viable outside the womb, will let the entire baby be born except the head.

Then they will stick scissors into the back of the head, make a hole, and suck out the brains. (More info).

The Democrats have made support for the torture, maiming and killing of unborn children a solid plank in their party platform. They euphemistically call it “a woman’s right to choose.”

Mark Shea used to say we had two parties: the Stupid Party and the Evil Party. Both have now firmly gone on record as embracing evil in its ugliest forms.
